
Become a Flight Instructor
Pass on the art of flying - qualify as a flight instructor, class rating instructor, or instrument rating instructor.
alpaviation offers the full range of instructor certificates for pilots ready to teach. Our instructor programmes are delivered by experienced training staff certified under EASA and BAZL regulations. From initial FI(A) qualification through to IRI and BAZL refresher seminars, all courses are available at our Bern-Belp base.

Flight Instructor
Qualify to instruct PPL(A) and LAPL(A) students on single-engine aircraft. 125 hours theory + 30 hours practical (25h with instructor, 5h simulator, 5h team flying). Selection exam with FI-I required within 6 months before start.
Post-certification: FI(RP) restricted privileges for first 100 instructional hours. Additional ratings expand to IFR, CPL(A), MEP, HPA teaching.

Class Rating Instructor
Authorised to conduct training for class and type ratings. 25 hours teaching & learning + 10 hours technical instruction. SEP: 3h practical, 300h total required. MEP: 5h practical, 500h total required.

Instrument Rating Instructor
Instruction at the highest level. Prerequisites: 800 hours IFR flight time, minimum 400 hours on aircraft with IR(A). 5–10 hours practical depending on existing instructor certifications.

BAZL FI Refresher
Official BAZL-approved 2-day seminar for instructor certificate renewal. CHF 450. 2026 dates: March 27–28 and November 14–15. Renewal requires 2 of 3: 50+ instruction hours, refresher seminar, competency assessment.

Teaching & Learning
Standalone course also embedded in all instructor programmes. 25 hours over 4 days. CHF 1,950. Covers: learning process, teaching techniques, student assessment, curriculum development, human performance, safety protocols.
