The four EASA pilot licences.
There are four pilot licences — LAPL(A), PPL(A), CPL(A) and ATPL(A) — stacked from lightest to most advanced. Each licence includes the privileges of the one beneath it, so you build upward as you progress. On top of any licence you can add ratings: instrument flight, multi-engine, type ratings, instructor.
The four are detailed below. Still unsure? Request a trial flight, or open the Atlas (coming soon) to explore every licence, the privileges it unlocks and the jobs it opens up.
Issued under EASA Part-FCL at FOCA-approved alpaviation, Bern. Convertible to FAA (USA), DGCA (India), UK CAA, Transport Canada and most national authorities.
Indicative pricing only.
Final costs depend on your individual progress, hours flown, exams and fees set by FOCA and EASA. Your tailored quote will reflect your starting point and chosen path.
Only a signed training agreement is binding.

The four licences
Read them top to bottom. You only need the licence that matches what you want to fly.
Each higher licence carries the privileges of the ones below — you don't hold them separately. Pick the level that matches what you want to do in the cockpit. On top of any licence you add ratings — instrument, multi-engine, type, instructor.
IR = instrument flying · MEP = multi-engine · CPL = commercial licence · ATPL = airline licence · UPRT = upset recovery

The ratings & endorsements
Ratings stack on top of a licence to expand what you can fly and where. Three families: operations (night, instrument, multi-engine, UPRT), type ratings for specific turbines, and instructor qualifications.
Stack any combination onto your LAPL(A) or PPL(A). Several are required for the professional path.
Plan your add-onEach unlocks specific turbine aircraft for charter, scenic, mountain or owner-flown operations.
Plan your add-onTurn flying experience into income — teach private, class or instrument students.
Plan your add-onTwo ways to begin.
Pick the one that suits how you decide. Some prefer to fly first and read later. Some prefer the other way around.
