Upset Prevention & Recovery Training
EASA-mandated UPRT for commercial pilots and class/type rating candidates. Theory plus practical flight on the FFA AS202 Bravo at Bern-Belp.
What UPRT covers
Since 20 December 2019, EASA regulations require Upset Prevention and Recovery Training at a certified flight school for the licences and ratings listed below. UPRT prepares pilots to recognise, prevent, and recover from unintended flight conditions — the situations that account for the largest share of loss-of-control accidents.
When UPRT is required
UPRT is mandatory within ATPL(A) and CPL(A) training, and for the initial issue of a class or type rating for:
- ·Single-pilot aircraft operated in multi-pilot operations
- ·Non-complex high-performance single-pilot aircraft
- ·Complex high-performance single-pilot aircraft
- ·Multi-pilot aircraft
Prerequisites
A valid medical certificate plus one of the following licences:
- ·CPL(A) modular or integrated, or CPL-IR(A)
- ·MPL(A)
- ·PPL(A)
- ·LAPL(A)
Training programme
The course is split into a theory module and a practical flight module.
Theory — 5 hours
Aerodynamics, G-forces, flight-path management, recognition (instrument reading and control inputs), system malfunctions, and human factors.
Practical — 3 hours flight
Unusual attitudes trained on two aircraft. Bristell B23 with modern glass cockpit for EFIS awareness in nose-high, nose-low, and stall regimes. FFA AS202 Bravo for spins and incipient spirals.
