CPL (A)

Commercial Pilot License
The training for a CPL(A) – Commercial Pilot License (Aeroplane) is offered by us in a modular training course. However, as it does not take prospective pilots directly into the cockpit of a modern aircraft with jet or turboprop engines, it is rarely chosen as an entry into the pilot profession. The license is suitable for private pilots who want to expand and deepen their theoretical knowledge and flying skills. They can then , for example, carry out commercial sightseeing flights in accordance with visual flight rules or later train to become a flight instructor.

Theoretical training

The theoretical instruction comprises 250 hours in the following subjects:

  • Air law
  • Airframe & Systems
  • Engine customer
  • Instruments
  • Electronics
  • Loading & center of gravity
  • Flight performance
  • Flight planning
  • Human performance
  • Meteorology
  • General navigation
  • Radio navigation
  • Operational procedures
  • Aerodynamics
  • Radio telephony
  • KSA (Knowledge Skills and Attitude)

The required 250 hours of theoretical training are carried out as a distance learning course. Of these, 25 hours are used as “presence learning” at the school.

Practical training

At the beginning of the practical training you must have 150 hours of total flight time experience (of which 50 hours as pilot in command (PIC). At the time of the exam you need 200h total flight time and 100h of this as pilot in command.

If you already have an instrument rating, you will receive 15 hours of flight training under visual flight rules. For 10 of these flight hours, the Cessna 172, Bristell BR23 or the Piper PA28 will be used as an alternative, and for 5 flight hours an aircraft with retractable landing gear and variable pitch propeller, alternatively the Cessna 182 RG, the Rockwell Commander TC115 or the twin-engine DA 42.

Applicants without an instrument rating must complete an additional 10 hours of flight training in instrument flight. 5 hours of this can be completed in our FNPT II simulator.

For applicants without a night flight license, an additional 5 hours of night flying must be taken into account.

Flying later

The commercial pilot license entitles you to:

  • For professional activity in non-commercial air transport as pilot-in-command or second pilot on aircraft of the type registered on the license.
  • In commercial air transport, to act as pilot-in-command on aircraft of the type registered in the license, which are approved for a minimum crew consisting of one pilot (SPA Single Pilot Aircraft).
