Private Pilot License (Aeroplane)

With the PPL(A) – Private Pilot License (Aeroplane), you can fulfill your dream of flying privately. It entitles you to charter and fly single-engine piston aircraft in non-commercial traffic throughout Europe. However, your license is valid worldwide, as recognition or transfer in non-European countries is generally not a problem.

Theoretical training

At least 100 teaching hours in the following subjects:

Air law
General aircraft knowledge
Flight performance and flight planning
Human performance
Meteorology
Navigation
Operational procedures
Aerodynamics
Radio telephony

The required 100 hours can be completed as classroom instruction at the flight school. Two evenings per week with 3 hours or Saturday / Sunday depending on the course are planned. Alternatively, it is also possible to use a distance learning course with 10 hours of local instruction or another individual combination of both forms of instruction.



Practical training

The training takes place in 10 stages:

With level 4 you can fly an airplane alone in the circuit area.
With level 7 you achieve solo cross-country maturity after passing the theory test.
In level 10 YOU will be ready for the practical exam.

At least 45 flying hours are required, which are divided as follows:

At least 25 hours with flight instructor
At least 10 hours solo under the supervision of the instructor
At least 5 hours cross-country flight
Maximum of 5 hours training in a simulator (FNPT II)

The practical training takes place on the new Bristell B23 or on the Cessna 172.

Registration Distance Learning

Part of the training to become a private pilot is the acquisition of a radiotelephony certificate. In addition, pilots may only participate in radiotelephony if a language endorsement is entered in their license for the language used. This applies to any language other than English, including German and French.

Voice VFR

A radiotelephony authorization must be obtained for the safe and correct use of aviation radio.

Flying later

The holder of a private pilot’s license (PPL-A) receives a class rating Single Engine Piston SEP (Land) and may therefore fly single-engine land aircraft with a piston engine. This rating, which can later be extended to larger and more complex aircraft, is generally valid for 24 months. In the last 12 months of the two-year period, 12 hours as pilot in command must be demonstrated. The class rating can be extended by completing this minimum number of hours and a practice flight with a flight instructor. And even if you do not meet this requirement because you have flown less or not at all, you only need one test flight with an expert and your rating is valid for a further 2 years.
