About alpaviation
Over three decades of precision flight training at the gateway to the Swiss Alps.
Our Philosophy
We believe that aviation is not just about flying - it is about developing judgment, building skill, and growing as an aviator. Every programme is shaped around you: your strengths, your pace, your ambitions.
“Training isn't one-size-fits-all; it's shaped around you, your strengths, pace and ambitions.”
Thomas Rufer, CEO & Head of Training
Our Story
Founded as MALBUWIT by Johannes Wittwer. From the very beginning, the school trained professional pilots with instrument ratings through to airline certification level.
Johannes Wittwer passed away. A group of pilots and aviation enthusiasts, led by Tom Rufer, came together to preserve the school's expertise and legacy.
MALBUWIT relaunched under new leadership. The course catalogue was expanded and the school re-established its position in the Swiss training landscape.
MCC instructor training on simulators. IRI course completions in Switzerland.
Began offering CB-IR(A) and EIR(A) simplified instrument ratings for private pilots.
First cohorts of Flight Instructors (FI) and Class Rating Instructors (CRI) completed their certifications.
MALBUWIT integrated alp-air and rebranded as alpaviation AG - establishing the Flight & Training Center Bern at Bern-Belp Airport.
Turbine rating programmes launched: Pilatus PC-12 SET and Cessna SET. FOCA-certified UPRT school established.
Despite the global pandemic, alpaviation ordered three Bristell B23 aircraft as an early customer in Europe — investing in the next generation of training aircraft.
All three Bristells entered service, each logging approximately 500 flight hours per year. A fourth aircraft was ordered to meet demand.
DA42 FNPT II simulator commissioned. Diamond DA42 twin-engine aircraft added to the fleet. alpaviation now offers the complete PPL(A)-to-ATPL(A) training pathway in-house.
